Space Salvage (2015)
Credits: Sound Designer, Composer, Writer
Activities: Create SFX, Compose music, Recruit/record voice actor, Write dialogue
Deployment: Windows, Web
Project summary: Top-down space themed rogue-like. Weigh the risk of becoming stranded far from your ship against the much smaller rewards nearby.
Challenges: The primary programmer was new to unity and code management. This made audio integration impossible without their assistance and a lot of patience.
Others involved: Purdue Special Interest Group on Game Development and Simeon Davis (voice actor).
Some effects were pulled and edited from pre-existing libraries of everyday sounds (e.g. refrigerator, drill). After processing to mimic the desired noise (e.g. laser hum, jetpack, pulley system).
Other effects were recorded from houshold items (e.g. scissors, coins, padlock).
The player listens to the soundtrack from a radio in their space helmet. No radio is perfect though, and their music is periodically interrupted by one of ten humorous commercials.
Here are two original songs I wrote for the soundtrack
